Tali Mendelberg is the John Work Garrett Professor of Politics at Princeton University, co-director of the Center for the Study of Democratic Politics (CSDP) and director of the Program on Inequality at the Mamdouha S. Bobst Center for Peace and Justice. Her book The Race Card: Campaign Strategy, Implicit Messages, and the Norm of Equality (Princeton University Press, 2001), won the American Political Science Association's Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award for "the best book published in the United States during the prior year on government, politics or international affairs." The Silent Sex: Gender, Deliberation and Institutions (Princeton University Press, 2014), coauthored with Chris Karpowitz, has also won distinctions. Earlier versions of its parts received the APSA Paul Lazarsfeld Award for the best paper in Political Communication (twice), the APSA Best Paper Award in Political Psychology (twice), the Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics (honorable mention), and was in the top-ten most downloaded APSR articles in 2013. She was awarded the Erik H. Erikson Early Career Award for Excellence and Creativity in the Field of Political Psychology. She has published articles in the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, Public Opinion Quarterly, Perspectives on Politics, Political Behavior, Political PsychologyPolitical Communication, and others. Her work has been supported by grants and fellowships from the Russell Sage Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Princeton University Center for Human Values, and The Mamdouha S. Bobst Center for Peace and Justice. She holds a PhD from the University of Michigan. Her areas of specialization are political communication; gender; race; class; public opinion; political psychology; and experimental methods.
