April 12, 2021

The White House announced that Keith Whittington, William Nelson Cromwell professor of politics and CSDP faculty associate, will join the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States. The panel is tasked with examining “the Court’s role in the Constitutional system; the length of service and turnover of justices on the Court; the membership and size of the Court; and the Court’s case selection, rules, and practices.” The commission is composed of 36 legal scholars, former federal judges and practicing lawyers.

The bipartisan commission has 180 days to study these structural changes to the Supreme Court, and to produce a report on a range of topics including court expansion and term limits.
