Omar Wasow's paper (with Maya Sen),  Race a Bundle of Sticks: Designs that Estimate Effects of Seemingly Immutable Characteristics, was highlighted by Vox Researchers have been thinking about race all wrong. This paper, which will be published in the Annual Review of Political Science, encourages scholars to recognize that race is comprised of many parts. This opens up the possibility of studying some individual "sticks" in isolation, each of which could then be studied through experimentation. This "helps us see what's actually doing the work" when it comes to how race affects our lives.

Wasow is Assistant Professor of Politics and a CSDP faculty associate.
