Professor Paul Starr addressed the question, "What Happened to Center-Right America?" in an op-ed in the New York Times. The United States, which some commentators claimed a decade ago was a 'center-right country,' today has seen the center-right become politically homeless as it has lost control of the Republican Party. As some on the center-right look for a home, they may become a restraining influence on the Democrats.
Paul Starr is a professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton and a CSDP faculty associate, a co-editor of The American Prospect and the author of the forthcoming “Entrenchment: Wealth, Power, and the Constitution of Democratic Societies.”
