Research by Andrew Guess: The Poynter Media Trust Survey

Dec. 11, 2017

Original public opinion research by Andrew Guess, Assistant Professor of Politics and Public Policy and CSDP Faculty Associate, is presented in Poynter, a leading publication for journalists. Guess's work, together with co-authors Brendan Nyhan (Dartmouth) and Jason Reifler (University of Exeter), finds dramatic polarization in media attitudes, with Republican and Trump supporters holding far more negative attitudes toward the press. These same people are more likely to describe journalists as an enemy of the people and to hold other negative attitudes about press freedom.
