Dean Paxson Announces New CSDP Co-Directors

Wednesday, Jun 15, 2011
Christina Paxson, Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School, announced yesterday that Charles Cameron and Markus Prior will become co-directors of the Center for the Study of Democratic Politics (CSDP), effective July 1, 2011.

In a note to CSDP affiliates, Cameron and Prior wrote “Over the last 11 years, CSDP has played a vital role in the intellectual life of Princeton. Its legacy of accomplishment is a great tribute to our friend and former colleague Larry Bartels. We are very excited at the chance to work with all of you to build on what Larry accomplished so magnificently.”

Both Cameron and Prior are jointly appointed in the Politics Department and the Woodrow Wilson School, and both have been CSDP Fellows and members of its Executive Board. Cameron is a specialist in American political institutions, especially courts and the presidency. Prior is a specialist in American political behavior, focusing on political communication, media, and political psychology.  Both are prolific scholars whose work has won numerous awards.

Bartels, the Center’s founding director, is leaving Princeton in July, to join the faculty of Vanderbilt University.

In her statement, Dean Paxson said, “I am grateful for all that Larry has done for the Center, and anticipate that it will continue to thrive under Chuck’s and Markus’s leadership.”
