Canes-Wrone in Washington Post: Can Competitive Elections Decrease Investment?

Thursday, Nov 7, 2013

A Washington Post Monkey Cage article by Brandice Canes-Wrone and her co-author, Jee-Kwang Park, reports their investigation as to whether electoral uncertainty produces a pre-election decline in costly-to-unload investments, particularly housing. Canes-Wrone's results suggest that a pre-election decline routinely occurs in the housing market, with the decline dependent on the competitiveness of the race and the policy differences between the major parties. Brandice Canes-Wrone is a CSDP Faculty Associate, Donald E. Stokes Professor in Public and International Affairs, and Professor of Politics and Public Affairs.
